"Miniatures for Horn"

I wrote these five little pieces for solo horn back in 2006 for a student at the University of West Florida who has since gone on to play in the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Bands!

Each of these miniatures is meant to explore a character generally associated with horn playing.

• 1. Gusts (Slow, emphasizing large two-note intervals)
• 2. Galloping (Fast, 6/8 time, Reminiscent of Mozart horn rondos)
• 3. Lament (Slow, in the lower register, and lyrical)
• 4. Demented Dance (Fast, 5/4 time with lots of jaunty rhythms)
• 5. Fanfare (Moderate tempo, generally loud and proud)
